Thank your for your comment Philippe Bourgeon. A development team should be able to use the estimation unit people feel comfortable with. That’s why I wrote estimating product backlog items “might be done by using story points”. The reason that I generally recommend sizing product backlog items is that it helps with prioritisation and tracking the progress from sprint to sprint.

I have a similar view on burnups: If they work better for you, then that’s great. My experience suggests that starting with release brundown charts tends to be beneficial, particularly when you adopt a collaborative release planning approach that involves the stakeholders.
